If there's one thing I want couples to remember when they're planning a wedding (and / or looking at these photos), it's that your wedding and how you decide to do it is up to you.  If your parents want to throw a party in honor of your marriage, let them, but the ceremony and the vows and what you wear and who you invite to that part of it should be all you - it's one of the most important days of your life, and you should do it however you want to do it.  Include the traditions that mean something to you and forget the rest of them.  Spend money on what's important to you and fake it for the rest.  At the end of the day, you'll be married, either way you slice it.
