Kelley Deal Photography | Kitchen Renovation - Just About Done!
I've posted about this before, but this is maybe the most exciting post I'll write about it. At the end of February (leap day, to be specific), Matt and I bought a house. We spent two weeks painting - almost every room, packing the old house, and moving into this one. We knew when we saw the house that it had great floors, tons of charm, and a new kitchen in it's future. I hated it. The only positive thing about the kitchen was the amount of natural light that came in, although you'd never have known it considering how dark it was.
We're talking country cabinets, dark wood panelling, peeling linoleum floors, dirt for days... it had to go. We made the decision to do it immediately - life will only get more complicated as we go - and with some help from a contractor, we got to work.
I could walk you through every detail, but I didn't do anything that reinvents the wheel and don't know that it'd be of much help - long story short, I painted the existing cabinets that we re-faced with new doors and drawer fronts (all custom made because the cabinets were from the 30s and 40s and far from consistent). We removed a peninsula, rearranged / replaced all of the lighting, replaced the appliances, and re-did the flooring. Matt installed the baseboards, and we painted EVERYTHING. We bought an island from IKEA and painted the base to match our cabinet.
All in all, we love this kitchen - it's clean, bright, and most importantly, it's done. Now onto the dining room :)
